En flicka och hennes pappa, som \u00e4r rullstolsbunden,<\/strong> flyttar in i ett nytt hus medan mamman \u00e4r bortrest. Huset kommer med en gigantisk gammal ek i tr\u00e4dg\u00e5rden, n\u00e5got som pappan anser vara besv\u00e4rlig och i v\u00e4gen, och d\u00e5 planerar han att f\u00e5 bort tr\u00e4det. Hon f\u00f6rs\u00f6ker p\u00e5 olika s\u00e4tt att f\u00e5 pappan att inse att tr\u00e4det m\u00e5ste stanna, och n\u00e4r en ekoxe, en utrotningshotad art som \u00e4r beroende av sin ek, hittas i tr\u00e4det, stoppas borttagningen direkt. Pappan blir \u00e4nnu mer irriterad och otrevlig. Dock till slut river en storm en stor gren ur tr\u00e4det, vilket l\u00e5ter solskenet str\u00f6mma ner till terrassen. Detta l\u00f6ser problemet mellan far och dotter, mer eller mindre, och de tv\u00e5 f\u00f6rsonas.<\/p>

Form och funderingar

<\/h4>

Str\u00f6mg\u00e5rd anv\u00e4nder rika f\u00e4rger<\/strong> och arbetar nyanserat med ljus. Tr\u00e4det, ljuseffekterna det skapar och livet det b\u00e4r i bilderna skapar en atmosf\u00e4r som \u00e4r vacker och rik, djup och ibland mystisk – fast p\u00e5 ett subtilt s\u00e4tt. Jag anar att bilderna visar intrycket som barnet f\u00e5r av tr\u00e4det.\u00a0 \u00c4ven om hon pratar mycket om att bygga en tr\u00e4dkoja, ber\u00e4ttar bilderna att det \u00e4r mer \u00e4n bara tr\u00e4dets anv\u00e4ndbarhet som lockar flickan till det.

<\/p>

F\u00f6rfattaren och illustrat\u00f6ren anv\u00e4nder dessutom<\/strong> en rad andra s\u00e4tt att skildra flickans k\u00e4nslov\u00e4rld. Hennes handlingar, hennes varierande och nyanserade ansiktsuttryck och hennes kroppsh\u00e5llning ger l\u00e4saren ett starkt intryck av inneb\u00f6rden som hennes relation till tr\u00e4det har.

<\/p>

Faderns perspektiv g\u00f6rs inte s\u00e4rskilt levande av bilderna;<\/strong> vi f\u00e5r intrycket att han \u00e4r l\u00f6jlig och hj\u00e4rtl\u00f6s. Vi ser bara hans sura ansiktsuttryck och l\u00e4ser hans n\u00e4stan sarkastiska kommentarer. Men att beh\u00f6va ge upp tillg\u00e5ngen till en tr\u00e4dg\u00e5rd p\u00e5 grund av ett tr\u00e4d, eller till och med p\u00e5 grund av en ekoxe som bor d\u00e4r, kan vara en bra anledning till grinighet, eller hur?\u00a0 Barnet i ber\u00e4ttelsen har tillg\u00e5ng till tr\u00e4det och d\u00e5 tr\u00e4dg\u00e5rden p\u00e5 ett helt annat s\u00e4tt \u00e4n fadern, som inte kan kl\u00e4ttra upp i tr\u00e4det f\u00f6r att njuta av solskenet, som blockeras av tr\u00e4dets grenar underifr\u00e5n.

<\/p>

En slump, n\u00e4mligen en storm<\/strong> som tar bort en stor gren fr\u00e5n tr\u00e4det under natten, ger den kompromiss som kr\u00e4vs f\u00f6r att l\u00f6sa ett sv\u00e5rt problem, och hj\u00e4lper till att \u00e5stadkomma f\u00f6rsoning mellan alla inblandade parter: far, dotter, tr\u00e4d och ekoxe.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Summary

<\/span><\/h4>

A girl and her dad, who is wheelchair bound<\/strong>, move to a new house while mom is away.\u00a0 The house comes with a giant old oak tree in the garden, something Dad considers a nuisance and in the way, and so he makes plans to have it removed.\u00a0 She argues with him about keeping the tree, and when a stag beetle, an endangered species dependent on its oak, is found in the tree, the removal of the oak is stopped.\u00a0 Dad becomes more irritable and unpleasant.\u00a0 Finally, a storm tears a large branch out of the tree, allowing sunshine to stream down to the terrace. This resolves the issue between father and daughter, more or less, and the pair is reconciled.\u00a0\u00a0

Form and reflections<\/span><\/h4>


Str\u00f6mg\u00e5rd uses rich colors and works nuanced<\/strong> with light and dark.\u00a0 The tree, the light effects it makes and the life it carries in the pictures make an atmosphere that is beautiful and rich, deep and sometimes mysterious – however subtly.\u00a0 I have the impression that the artwork suggests what the child sees in the tree:\u00a0 Although she talks a lot about building a treehouse, the artwork tells us that there is more than just the tree’s usefulness that attracts her to it.

<\/span><\/p>

The author and illustrator also use a range<\/strong> of other ways to depict the emotional world of the girl.\u00a0 Her actions, her varied and nuanced facial expressions, and her body postures give the reader a strong impression of the meaning of her relationship to the tree.\u00a0

<\/span><\/p>

The father\u2019s perspective is not made vivid<\/strong> by the images; we get the impression that he is being ludicrous and heartless.\u00a0 We only ever witness his grumpy face and snide remarks.\u00a0 But having to give up access to a garden because of a tree, or even because of a mere stag beetle might be a good reason for grumpiness, right? The child in the story has access to the tree, and so the garden, in a wholly different way to the father, who cannot climb up into the tree\u2019s branches to enjoy the sunshine, which is blocked from below by the same branches.\u00a0

<\/span><\/p>

A coincidence, namely a storm<\/strong> removing one large branch from the tree overnight, provides the compromise necessary to solve a difficult problem, and helps to bring about the reconciliation between all involved parties: father, daughter, tree and stag beetle.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
